The Magic Max is lighter and easier to mount, but it feels like an indoor device. After two units in one location, a tech reported the LTE signal dropping whenever the cabinet fan cycled. We re-seated the RF connectors, and the issue went away. That was a truck roll we didn't plan for.
The LS300 is the leaner, lower-cost sibling in Sierra's lineup. It is not a direct XR80 replacement, but it has the same management DNA. For branch sites and fixed equipment that don't need 5G gigabit, it is a good fit.

You are not really choosing Sierra Wireless vs Broadcom. You are choosing total cost of ownership, field reliability, security, and support. In 2025, I would rather buy a slightly more expensive gateway that I can manage remotely than a cheap one that sends a technician out twice a year.
If budget is tight, buy the Sierra Wireless LS300 before you buy a Broadcom-based consumer-grade box. The LS300 gives you Sierra Wireless support and a management platform at a lower entry point. The XR80 is worth the jump if connectivity is critical.
Honestly, I still don't understand why some vendors sell enterprise gateways without the management tools to back them up. My best guess is they are counting on the spec sheet to close the sale. It worked on me once. It won't work again.
